In recent years, Asia Pacific healthcare simulation industry has witness tremendous growth. This high growth of simulation training can be attributed to a number of factors such as rising healthcare costs, increasing need of skilled staffs for alleviating patient safety, focus on improving quality of health services, and technological advancements in surgeries and treatments.

Asian healthcare simulation market valued $126.7 million in 2014 growing at a rate of 22.2% yearly to reach $345.3 million by 2019, according to report by MarketsandMarkets. The application of simulation for education in Asia is limited due to lack of awareness of simulation benefits and justification of return on investments. Also, the bigger question is whether we have reached ‘realism’ in simulated training modules with existing technologies and equipment.

Asia Pacific Healthcare Simulation Conference’, organized by MnM Conferences, that took place on 21st & 22nd April 2016 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia aimed at providing a platform - discussing ways to improve existing simulation techniques for better outcomes by bringing together experts from hospitals, universities, training centers, and research institutions. The conference discussed the pivotal challenges hindering the growth of simulation training such as high costs of simulators, limited availability of funds and operational challenges in maintaining the training unit.

Key topics covered at the conference:

• Creating awareness on development of simulation faculty and its importance in the APAC region
• Evaluation of simulation training in Healthcare
• Faculty development for enhancing simulation outcomes
• Training on developing Non-technical skills
• Ways to improve skills in debriefing
• Human factors and Patient safety
• Application of virtual reality in Nursing
• Promoting and developing mobile applications for simulation education
